Knee Pain Treatment
Knee pain can be as a result of damage to the structures that surround the knee such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint capsule, bursae, cartilage and bone. It is also a common symptom of arthritis and obesity.
Due to the complexity of the knee joint, it is one of the most commonly injured joint in the body. It has muscles from both the upper and lower leg attach into it, as well as many ligaments and a joint capsule holding it together. The cartilage in the joint allows the tibia and femur to move against each other and the surrounding bursae help to reduce friction from the muscles. Injuries, excessive force though the joint e.g. obesity, degeneration (osteoarthritis), and poor knee alignment are all common causes of knee pain. The Podiatrists at Scarborough Podiatry are able to assess your knee to determine what is causing the pain. Sometimes knee pain can be referred pain from the hip or as a result of poor foot biomechanics. Treatments for knee pain include orthotics to improve biomechanics and knee alignment, trigger point therapy to alleviate tight muscles and advice on stretching and strengthening exercises. We often work with your doctor, physiotherapist or chiropractor if difficult cases of knee pain.
